It is with pleasure that we invite you to attend the 16th International Symposium on School Life and School History Museums & Collections.
We are immensely proud to have been chosen as the first museum outside Europe to host this event, and we are sure that we will provide you with an unforgettable experience. You will witness first-hand the way our school and museum work in partnership to provide a truly unique historical learning environment for the students who attend the Sovereign Hill Schools program. You will also discover the variety of stimulating educational experiences provided by the Sovereign Hill Education Officers to over 100,000 students each year.
The theme of the Symposium is ‘Learning Through History’. It will offer the opportunity to immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of the 1850s Australian gold rushes as well as taking part in presentations and discussion forums. The program will comprise keynote speakers and forums designed for history teachers, university lecturers and museum directors. It will take the form of short presentations followed by time for discussion. In addition, you will participate in practical activities around the museum such as the gold pour, panning for real gold and underground mine tours. Excursions around Ballarat will also be included in the registration fee. The program details are on this website. They outline a rich and diverse range of sessions and activities.
We look forward to you visiting Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum. You will have an exciting time! If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Dr Jeremy Johnson, Sovereign Hill’s CEO, or Geoffrey McArthur, Principal of the Sovereign Hill Schools.
